Orange Day

* Why Orange? see previous post on "Orange Toque? Find out on Queen’s Day"

It took me a while to get up this morning, was still recovering from jet-lag after two weeks in exotic Cuba. Or perhaps I was trying to escape from the Queen’s Day sale that I had been planning for weeks. I was a little bit hesitant; I had nightmares thinking that I just may have to eat all the financiers myself!

But in the end, I am glad I did it ;)… Queen’s Day was a beautiful day. My editor and my friend Xavier came to help. We found a small spot in the Belgisch Square flea-market, in Scheveningen, and started selling my home-made financiers (pronounced as fin-uhn-seer, see "Financier" post March 5, 2011) that I had baked while watching the Royal wedding of Prince William and Kate the day before (loved her dress). Sales started off slowly, and I started to get a little bit worried. Not too much though – the sun was out, it was nice and warm, I wasn’t going to give up that easily! I thought to myself, all these people passing by just need to try my cake, I was sure they’d like it. So I decided to pick up my cake basket and approach people instead. It’s amazing what a few smiles and a little confidence will do ;) It worked! I even had repeat customers! By mid-afternoon, I was pretty much sold out… It hadn’t been easy, but I was soooo happy – I really liked seeing others enjoy my cakes, the odd compliment I received helped too J… I even managed to break-even!

So, I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to those who’d been brave enough to try my cakes. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed baking it.

A special thanks also to Xavier for his help, and friends (you know who you are ;)) who came all the way to support me.

ps: In case you’re wondering why there aren’t any photos – I forgot my camera!!
